Can you really go surfing in the Maldives?
I must admit when I was first told you could go surfing in the Maldives, I didn't believe it. However it is very true. Surfing the Maldives is becoming a very popular past time.
In fact the Maldives is fast becoming a world class surf destination. The O'Neil Deep Blue internation surf competition has become a regular event, participated by the best known names in the surfing world.
Although most of the recognised surf breaks are in the 'Male Atoll', several other known breaks are dotted in the central atolls. It is possible to surf the breaks in the Male Atoll from the resort, the best breaks are further out.
There are organised surf safaris which will help you get to these breaks.
The Maldives Surfing Season
The south west monsoon from May to October brings with it windy and blustery weather. However this also generates the best conditions for surfing.
